I’m Josiah Smucker — a full-time flight instructor and aviator with over a decade of flying experience. I work primarily with airplane owners and airplane club pilots pursuing true proficiency, not just minimum standards. After starting my instructing career at a local flight school, I eventually transitioned into independent instruction focused on personalized, real-world training.
My background includes mission flying in Guatemala, tailwheel and stick-and-rudder training, spin instruction, instrument proficiency, and aircraft-specific coaching for owners and experienced pilots alike. I believe great instruction goes beyond passing checkrides — it’s about building confidence, judgment, discipline, and a mindset of continual growth.
Outside of aviation, I enjoy hiking, wood carving, playing guitar, and spending time outdoors. I aim to bring a personable and encouraging approach to instruction while maintaining a strong emphasis on professionalism, safety, and mastery in the cockpit.
